Website - Owning a Home

What is Owning a Home?

Owning a Home (OaH) is a section within the consumerfinance.gov website. It offers a suite of resources and tools to educate and help American consumers in their home buying process and improve financial literacy.

The site is organized in different category levels: landing, browse and learn pages in order to make the site navigation easier to follow.

Landing page

We've tested 2 concepts for the landing page: a resource/tool-based and "the Journey."

The latter tested much better because it offers a path with different phases of the home buying process and helps the user to orient themselves. Below is the final iteration of the Journey now called "know the process."

Other online tools and resources we offer:

The rate checker tool helps users to explore different loan rates according to their own situation.

Know before you owe page helps American consumers and the industry navigating through the new mortgage rule which replaces 4 forms into 2 new ones (Loan estimate and Closing disclosure).

The Loan estimate explainer tool assists users in understanding the new loan estimate form based on the new CFPB rule.

The Closing disclosure tool helps users to understand the closing costs involved during settlement.
